Description
This print, by an unknown artist, is an example of a nagasaki-e or nagasaki hanga ("Nagasaki print"). Nagasaki prints were generally souvenirs for Japanese visitors who were curious about the appearance and customs of foreigners. Such prints were usually fairly crudely woodblock-printed and then coloured by hand. This particular reproduction of a Nagasaki print shows a party of Dutch people who appear to have had a considerable amount to drink, judging from the many empty bottles at the bottom of the illustration. What is presumed to be a Dutch translation of the Japanese title appears at the top of the print.
