This design is from a series of more than 50 prints, by Chikanobu - Jidai Kagami (Mirror of different Eras) each one showing a woman with a hair-style and dress from a historical era - this one representing the 1840s. The background image at top - with artificial 'tattering' to help make it look old, is of a Noh theatre.
