Description
A few beautiful courtesans, dressed for the day out, admire different types of chrysanthemums at an exhibition. A samurai with two swords stands at the centre of the print, and behind him we can see some beautifully blind-embossed clouds. Chrysanthemums are a particularly special flower in Japan that signify nobility and appear on the Japanese Imperial Family’s crest. Yellow chrysanthemums such as the ones we see in this print can also be used to represent broken love, an apt theme for this set of books on the lives of courtesans.
