Description
Utamaro has chosen to use the iris, representing summer, as the last image in the first of his two books on courtesans and the four seasons. The print is necessarily much more simple than most of the prints in the set, depicting a flower and not a "scene" as such, but does use a light blue bokashi gradation at the bottom of the print to give a sense of refreshing coolness in summer.
