Description
The text is read ‘Izumo Taisha HotoHoto no Zu’ - the Hotohoto Festival at the Great Shrine in Izumo Province.
The is a scene of the festival held on the 15th of January at Izumo Great Shrine.
Three ladies are wearing light color kimono with patterns of lucky objects such as an inexhaustible purse, cloves, cranes and so on.
The foreground trees and ladies are drawn with clear and distinct color, but the rest of the trees, two other ladies and the shrine gate in the background are in a vague gray tone.
The gradations applied on the objects in the background indicate the mist is coming up from the ground.
The blue horizontal ‘bokashi’ gradation at the lower area adds depth to the scene.
