Description
This is a view of Shimizu Port in Suruga Province, from a series ‘Nihon Minato Zukushi’ which was originally made about 1840-1843 by Hiroshige. This print is a reproduction by ‘Oedo Mokuhansha’.
Over the horizon, a subtle pink ‘bokashi’ gradation is applied. The sun has already set, most fishing boats are moored and only a few people are still seen carrying the day’s cargo.
The shape of many pine trees in dark colors are very impressive against the light background.
Shimizu port is famous as one of the top three beautiful ports in Japan.
