Description

The Japanese title of this print ‘Kanbai 観梅’ means ‘Plum Blossom Viewing’

Two women, one in a colourful and delicately patterned kimono and another (possibly her attendant) in a more demure outfit, enjoy the sight of plum blossoms on a chilly day. A few pieces of paper, possibly fortune slips (Omikuji 御神籤) on which poems are written, are tied to the branches of the tree.

The ‘Shibori’ pattern of the young lady’s Kimono - from her knee area to down - is so well printed using embossing technique that it looks real!
