Description
Caught in mid-flight by Hiroshige's 'strobe' flash, a pair of sparrows cavort near a snow-covered camellia tree. One of Hiroshige's many tanzaku designs, this one is in a slightly widened format. The print uses karazuri blind-embossing on the sparrows' wings. The poem at the upper right of the print reads, "Crows and storks fight over something to eat and sparrows over where to sleep. You stand there all alone by the pond, the wind blows and snow piles up" (translation by the Art Institute of Chicago).
