Description

The onnagata actor Nakayama Tomisaburō I is presented here as Miyagino, the sister of Shinobu, with whom she is tracking down their father's murderer in the play Katakiuchi Noriyaibanashi. Nakayama Tomisaburō was featured in at least eight of Sharaku's prints. The MET holds an early impression of the portrait.
