Description
The actor Bandō Mitsugorō II is presented here as Ishii Genzo in the climax of the play Hana Ayame Bunroku Soga. He draws his sword, eyes and hair wild, as he prepares to exact revenge on the murderer of the father of his brothers-in-law. The karazuri blind-embossing on the character's costume is a highlight of the print. The MET holds an early impression of the portrait.
