Description
Left: A poem associated with the Japanese military is raised on a banner in this print. The poem reads Karukimi ni / omoki tsutome mo / tsutsukanaku / hatashite / kaeru kyo no / ureshisa, conveying a sense of gratitude about returning safely from a hard day's work.
Right: Dated January 21st, Showa 2 (1927), this senjafuda was produced to commemorate the first meeting (of the senjafuda group) of the Showa period. The illustration shows a fascinating cross-cultural duo - an angel with a trumpet (of course a Western motif) and a rabbit (1927 was the Year of the Rabbit). The designer of the print may have been someone called "Shinba" - their name-seal appears in the bottom-right.
