6 months ago I didn’t know wood block printing was a thing, now, after finding Dave and Kubota-san, I am hooked. Thank you for all the joy you have brought me these last 6 months, I have been going through a lot and your work brings peace and separation from reality for just a bit of a break. Your friend from Iowa, USA, Martin.

Much appreciation to you. Your work is known throughout the world. I live in Wisconsin. We have a few woodblock print makers here but nothing like what you have accomplished in Japan. Peace.

The output of your work is without parallel and through Dave's live streams I have often been in awe of the sheer quality and skill you have exhibited time after time when he reveals your prints.

I am a complete stranger, living on the other side of this world from you, but with heartfelt emphasis I can say that I have been moved by the skill that lies within your hands and your obvious love and devotion to wood block printing - you've taken an already magical craft and risen to the very pinnacle.

Your talent is unmatched, and your legacy will live on — not only at Mokuhankan but also in the homes of thousands who will see, feel, and cherish your prints forever.

Thank you for your dedication and for the joy you’ve brought to so many of us. Bless you, my friend.

I am writing from Australia. Kubota-san’s work has brought the beauty of Japanese woodblock printing into my home and countless others around the world. His skill in making each line and colour come alive on the washi is a gift, one that speaks of quiet dedication and mastery. As someone who admires this craft, I feel lucky to have seen his prints, which carry the spirit of tradition forward so faithfully. Thank you for your work. It has left a mark that will last.

Thank you, Kubota-san! I will cherish your prints in my collection for many many years to come.

Through Dave's work with Mokuhankan, I began to come to know and appreciate traditional woodblock prints. However, I wouldn't have truly understood the beauty of the prints and the craft without Kubota-san. Whenever a package of Kubota-san prints would be opened on stream, it was so clear (even to my own novice eyes) that those designs had achieved their highest possible form.

I want to thank Kubota-san for helping create the prints that are now some of my most prized possessions; but more importantly, for helping me better understand and appreciate the truly amazing craft of traditional Japanese woodblock printmaking.

I am lucky enough to live near a major museum that houses a world-class collection of Japanese Woodblock Prints. Kubota-san's work has deepened my appreciation and enjoyment of that collection. But very frequently, I leave with the thought "That's nice, but I like the printing on my Kubota-san copy at home better."

Mr. Kubota,

It is through the words and images of David Bull that I discovered both you and your craft. I am deeply grateful to him for that. I will probably never have the opportunity to meet you or express my thanks in person for the delicate and vibrant worlds, shaped by your hands, that have now become part of my imagination.

Yet, I feel as though I know you well. The connection you have with your art seems familiar to me… I grew up surrounded by extraordinary artisans—men and women who often shy away from recognition, driven by humility and respect for those who trained them and to whom they owe much.

However, I believe it is essential to acknowledge the credit you deserve. For like them, you have taken up the torch from your predecessors and, in turn, made it shine brightly. Through the values you uphold and your devotion to your craft, you belong to that rare group of individuals I hold in the highest esteem, a man after my own heart. Your flame will undoubtedly continue to illuminate my path, as well as that of many others.

Thank you.

Dear Kubota‐san,

I write to you from Germany with deep gratitude and respect for your artistry and dedication. Your exquisite craftsmanship has touched countless lives around the world.

Every time a perfectly arranged stack of prints appears we viewers on our Twitch streams instantly recognise, before even Mr. Bull tells us, that there is a one of Kubota‐sans packages. Your humble remark—“I’m just the printer”—belies the extraordinary care and passion you bring to your craft. Your work is a legacy of true shokunin spirit.

It saddens us deeply to learn of your recent health challenges. In this difficult time, please know that the beauty and impact of your work continue to inspire us all. Across continents—from Japan to Germany—your dedication resonates, and we are united in admiration and heartfelt support for you.

May you find comfort in knowing that your art has not only enriched our lives but also connected people across the globe. We are keeping you in our thoughts and sending you our warmest wishes for strength and peace.

With deepest respect and gratitude,

Alexander Leykin

Kubota-san,

Since I started purchasing print series from Mokuhankan receiving that package in the mail has become the highlight of my month. Even if your name wasn't provided I always know your pieces by your stellar work: the border of my print of Tsunamink is perfect and not a single drop of pigment on the whole piece is out of place. I will forever treasure what prints of yours I have, for they are beautiful beyond compare.

Truly, thank you. - C.J. Gugliotti, Cape Cod, U.S.A.

Your work is truly beautiful and is one of the reason I am learning Japanese woodblock print now. I hope I will be able to achieve what you were able to do.
