Description

A (partial) set of 二丁 (two-up layout) senjafuda on the theme of various activities taking place in the Asakusa area through the course of a year. This first print works as a calendar of special events in Asakusa. It seems that at least one of the prints in the series (unfortunately missing from our collection) was printed in the 四丁 (four-up layout) style. The organiser of the production of the series was 田夕梅 ("Tayume"?), and the set was probably produced for the Toto Nosatsu-kai (東都納札會) senjafuda group. One scholar has suggested that 田夕梅 was a name used by Yoshida Biho (吉田美芳), a rōkyoku singer who studied art under Kobayashi Kiyochika.
