Description
In this scene Settai shows us a beautifully dressed woman admiring the peak of Mt. Tsukuba during her stroll. The geometric shapes on her obi sash are particularly striking. The willow branches which hang down at the left of the scene and the blue gradation directly before her seem to suggest that she is walking along a riverbank. Settai has only depicted the peak of the mountain, letting us imagine the cloud of cool fog covering up its base. Tsukubasan, or Mt. Tsukuba, is a mountain near to Tokyo popular for hiking and sightseeing.
