Description

In this print, Utamaro depicts the famous beauty Ochie of the Koise-ya teahouse. Her head is slightly bowed as she reads, engrossed in the kibyōshi (黄表紙) picture book. The print, which captures a beautiful young woman in a private moment, is from Utamaro's Edo Kōmei Bijin ("Famous Beauties of Edo") series and was originally produced between 1792 and 1793.
