Description

Two women and a child on a day trip from Tokyo are ferried over the Rokugo River to visit Benten Shrine on Kaname Island, Haneda, by an out-of-frame boatman. Sailboats drift over Tokyo Bay in the distance. One woman smokes a pipe while the other, probably of a higher social rank, doesn't bother to leave her kago (palanquin).

A senjafuda group's take on Hiroshige's "Visit to Benten in Haneda" design, from his Toto Ensoku Meisho ("Famous Places for Excursions from Tokyo") fan-print series. Hiroshige's original design can be seen here. This is the "evening bell" print of the senjafuda group's "Eight Views" series.
