The Screenplay: Scene 3

Posted by Dave Bull on December 19, 2022 [Permalink]

Daughter: Father, why have you taken on John as your apprentice? You know I don't like him.

SHINJI: I understand your concerns, but John has a lot of potential. I believe he can learn a lot from me, and I can learn from him as well.

Daughter: But why can't I be your apprentice? I have been studying woodblock printing for years now.

SHINJI: You know the craft better than anyone, including John. But I want to give him a chance to prove himself. He is eager to learn and I believe he has the potential to do great things.

Daughter: But why not give me the opportunity? I'm your daughter.

SHINJI: You are my daughter, and I love you very much. But this apprenticeship is not about family. It's about finding the right person with the right skills and passion. I think John can be that person.
