Description
A gorgeous album of prints from Akiyama Buemon, one of the premier Meiji-era publishers of woodblock prints.
The series of images shows typical scenes from a day-long tea ceremony being held in an upper class home, from the early-morning preparation stages, right through to the eventual departure of the guests in the late afternoon.
Note that there is no 'continuity' - although the activities form a coherent story over the course of the day, the people, clothing, rooms, and even the seasons, vary from scene to scene.
[Here at Mokuhankan none of us are specifically knowledgeable about 'tea'. We have prepared these images, but have only a superficial knowledge of the scenes being depicted. If you have good information on the content of these images, and are willing to share, to help fill out the 'Description' sections of these pages, please use the contact form to 'fill us in' with whatever insights you can.
Any assistance will be much appreciated ... thank you!]
