Description

The prints are numbered from top-to-bottom, left-to-right.

Print 1: Titled 相撲 (sumo). Two sumo wrestler dolls grapple with each other.
Print 2: Titled 引舟 (hikibune, "pulling a boat"). A man battles the wind and rain while pulling in a boat in this Hokusai-esque label. (Inoue Matsuyoshi).
A catcher prepares to swipe a baseball from mid-air. (Tsuda Koraku).
Print 4: Titled 金棒持つ手 (kanabo motsu te, "hand holding a kanabo"). A hand attached to a muscled arm brandishes a kanabo war club. (Nakao Rinka (also known as 中尾佐太郎 (Nakao Sataro))).
Print 5: Titled 行司 (gyoji, "sumo referee"). A sumo referee with his gunbai fan. Signed 上お (Kamio (Yakichi)). The artist's name in the index, however, reads (Uemura Seikodo).
Print 6: Titled 砲玉投 (ho-dama nage, "throwing a shotput"). A shotput athlete. (Kishigami Shugetsu).
Print 7: Titled 競争 (kyosou, "a race"). An athlete stoops in a starting position for a race. (Kitada Haruhiko).
This keshō-mawashi outfit of a sumo wrestler has the characters 南吉 (referring to "Minami Yoshijiro" (南吉次郎, a member of this match label group)) emblazoned on it.
Print 9: Titled 走高跳 (hashiri-taka-tobi, "high jump"). A Japanese athlete participates in the high jump. (Shirai Kosetsu).
Print 10: Titled 競馬 (keiba, "horseracing"). A racehorse about to win a race, in a beautiful Taisho/early Showa period style. The orange and yellow pigments have either been hand-applied or simply printed a little carelessly. The signed name (適所 (referring to 長谷川適所 (Hasegawa Tekisho), the sponsor) is pictured inside a horseshoe - a nice touch.
Print 11: Titled 相撲 (sumo). What appears to be a doll of a sumo wrestler, with a gunbai fan (which the referee uses to call a match) in the background. The wrestler's keshō-mawashi reads 葛山 ("Katsuyama"), referring to the sponsor, 葛山磐次 (Katsuyama Banji).
Print 12: Titled 引舟 (hikibune, "pulling a boat"). An image of an unknown statue, titled 引舟 (hikibune), signed by 田中嘉美 (Tanaka Hiromi).
Print 13: Titled 力石 (chikara-ishi, "lifting stone"). A large chikara-ishi rock used for tests of strength, painted with the character for "strength" (力) in red. (Yamashita Suisho).
Print 14: Titled 引舟 (hikibune, "pulling a boat"). Two people, probably fishermen, pull a ship in to shore. (Maruyama Matsunobu).
Print 15: Titled 相撲 (sumo). A sumo wrestler, possibly being thrown out of a ring. The skin-coloured bokashi gradation which creates a shadow on the wrestler's body is a highlight of the print. (Kobayashi Korin).
