Fishermen swing burning torches over rapids while others grasp for fish in the thigh-deep water at night. The beautiful pitch black sky is a nice feature only occasionally used in ukiyo-e, and the skill of the printer can be seen in the stars - the tiny sections of paper left free of pigment after the printing of the black sky (pigments often fill up these tiny notches in the woodblock, therefore making them difficult to leave blank).
