Description
Hokusai's series of ten prints titled "1000 Views of the Sea" was originally published in the 1830s. While the originals are small in size, they present beautiful views of different states of seas and various fishing methods. Waves were a popular motif in ukiyo-e, but it is safe to say that no works match the fame of Hokusai's depiction of a turbulent sea in "The Great Wave". This series, which, fortunately, has survived the last two or so centuries, presents viewers with the opportunity to compare Hokusai's depictions of waves in different series while also providing information on various traditional Japanese fishing methods. This particular set of ten prints was reproduced by Adachi in the 1970s.
