Description
This collection of bijin-ga (美人画, pictures of beautiful women) is a bit of mystery - it can't have been printed by Takamizawa, as it is from before their time. At least one of the prints is actually a very early Adachi print, but the others are different. So what we have here is a range of bijin-ga prints by various publishers all made in a very similar style - the rich dark mica backgrounds with a ‘roughened’ patterning were the style of the day, and all of the prints are in the ōkubi-e (大首絵) format, only showing the head or the head and upper torso.
[Note: for many of the prints in this group, we have photographed them under varied lighting: please check the 'Additional Images' tab for each item to see and compare.]
