Designer: Torii Kiyonaga Era: Early Showa | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print is from a two-volume collection that follows the history of ukiyo-e in reproduced prints by Takamizawa company published in 1952. The two sets are in rough chronological order and follow different techniques through history, starting with sumizuri-e, moving through tan-e, urushi-e, beni-e, and so on. Please visit our Collection page where you can see our own preserved copy of this entire set at high-resolution. Two courtesans read a letter together while another admires the moon on a warm night. A few red dots can be seen in the distance - boats, perhaps, as, judging from the pattern of waves and a fishing net on one of the courtesan's kimono, they are near the sea. This print is from the Minami Jūni Kō (美南見十二候, "Twelve Months in the South") series of prints by Kiyonaga. This print is an o-ban nishiki-e ("large size brocade print"), also known as an o-nishiki. This print is slightly toned overall. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
