Description: This print is from a set of reproductions of 25 of Hiroshige's lesser-known prints, given the English title "Rare Publication: Selected Works by Hiroshige" by the publisher, O-Edo Mokuhansha. Please visit our Collection page where you can see our own preserved copy of this entire set.

A butterfly perches on a delicate chrysanthemum while another flits nearby in this richly coloured fan print by Hiroshige. Some of the flowers are in full bloom, while others are just beginning to open. An unknown poem appears in a cartouche on the left side. The dark gray background and the beautiful colours used give this print a very different feeling to Hiroshige's more well-known landscapes. The original print may have been produced in the 1840s, but it is currently unclear if any institutions hold it.
