Designer: Ando Hiroshige Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print is from a set of reproductions of 25 of Hiroshige's lesser-known prints, given the English title "Rare Publication: Selected Works by Hiroshige" by the publisher, O-Edo Mokuhansha. Please visit our Collection page where you can see our own preserved copy of this entire set. A small bird, possibly a great titmouse, perches on a branch of a cherry blossom tree in early spring in this Hiroshige print. The original print is believed to have been part of a series produced by Fujiokaya Hikotaro, and the date of publication is currently unknown. A scarce example of an early printing can be seen here. Hiroshige produced a plethora of bird-and-flower prints during his lifetime, and many closely resembled each other. Examples of prints similar in theme and layout to this fan print can be viewed here and here. The poem in the upper part of the print talks of the yamazakura (mountain cherry), the species of the tree pictured. There is a pin-hole at the top left corner of this print.
