Back in 1999, very early in my shin-hanga explorations, I wrote an article for shinhanga.net comparing various editions of this print. See http://shinhanga.net/casestudy2.htm . Later, Phil Roach came to the party and overlaid his commentaries as an adjunct to mine. Between the two of us, I believe that we had more questions than we had answers.
