Description
A few of the commemorative prints produced at the end of work on the set... They are addressed to a Mr. Furuya (古屋), whom the sponsor of the three prints, 丸山松延 (Maruyama Matsunobu), congratulates for having moved his store (presumably a fish shop) to a new building. The print on the far right gives us a date - December, Showa 9 (1934) - which provides an estimate of the age of the prints (at least these last three, but more likely all of the labels in the set).
The carp, pictured in the print on the left, is a traditional Japanese symbol of celebration. In the second print we can see a wooden pail, painted red in celebration, with a plain white celebratory noshi paper attached. A small package decorated with red mizuhiki wire and illustrations of pine trees is depicted in the third print. This housewarming package bears the words 祝新築 ("congratulations on your move") and the real thing would probably have contained an expensive delicacy.
