Description

People begin to make their way home as the evening bell rings in Ueno, Tokyo. Bokashi gradation is used to bring out the horizon, the sky, and the sandy ground in the print, and the fact that the the depicted people are given distinct characters (an old man, several samurai, noble ladies, and so on) despite being little more than stick-figures shows the skill of the artist, Hiroshige.
