Description
Snow falls quietly on Godaidō Temple in Matsushima, near Sendai. The temple sits on a piece of land that juts out from the bay, and in the distance we see the islands of Fukuurajima, Okinajima, and so on. The deep blue sea in front of the temple looks icy cold, and the only sign of warmth in the print is the bright red temple itself. No people are in sight - they must all be at home, sheltering from the chilly weather.
The print is from Okuyama's "Views of Japan" (日本風景版画) series.
