Description

The hanging rack on the veranda indicates the sailing boat, with the tenugui (Japanese towel) representing the sail of the ship. Then, where is the sea? At the lower right there is a bucket of water from which the woman is rinsing her hands.

The woman seated at left is doing needlework. Without the sound from modern sewing machine we can almost hear the sound of falling water from the dipper, indicating the sound of waves.
