Description: Usugumo (Wisps of Cloud) is the 19th chapter of The Tale of Genji, one of the fifty-four chapters of this classic literary masterpiece.

This scene captures the poignant moment when Genji bids farewell to his beloved Murasaki (depicted wearing a green outer robe) as he prepares to visit the Akashi Lady, another of his loves. Their young daughter, the little girl depicted next to Genji, and now under Murasaki's care, clings to Genji’s hem, unwilling to let him go, adding an emotional depth to the composition
