Description: 'The 69 Stations of the Kiso Kaidō' is a series of ukiyoe woodblock prints created by Keisai Eisen and Utagawa Hiroshige between 1834 and 1836. It depicts 69 stops along the Nakasendo, also known as the Kiso Kaidō, connecting Tokyo and Kyoto. You can view the entire series on this great website. (Although we haven't seen the rainy version of Oiwake reproduced in the post-war publications.)

Image information: The artwork skillfully captures a serene moonlit scene, where a group of travelers with their horses ascends a gently sloping road. The path is bordered by majestic pine trees that line its right edge, their towering forms creating a sense of rhythm and grandeur. An intriguing harmony emerges as the travelers, aligned in an orderly procession, mirror the verticality of the pines. The moon, partially obscured by a tree branch, casts a soft, poetic light over the scene.

This version is a reproduction published by the Yuyudo Company.

There are slight creases at the right margin.
