Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketMt. Asama from the Usui PassSize: 25.5cm by 38.5cm (10.04 in by 15.16 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Utagawa Kuniyoshi Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ¥ 13,000$ 99.00£ 78.00€ 93.75 Description: This scenic horizontal print by Kuniyoshi shows a view divided by clouds of Mt. Asama in present-day Nagano Prefecture from the Usui Pass in Gunma Prefecture. A few travelers at the right side of the print stop to enjoy the view, while others carry on, eager to reach their goal. The shading of the trees in the foreground may show influence from Western artworks, and the use of red/gray bokashi gradation at the summit of the mountain suggests that this is not merely another cloud, but smoke emanating from the volcano. A different version of this print, without the smoke at the peak of the volcano, can be seen here. This version is likely a part of the set 'Masterpiece Ukiyo-e Collection' published by Takamizawa Company in the 1950s. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
