Designer: Fujiwara Nobuzane Era: Taisho | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print is from the series, 日本木版画粋 (Masterpieces of Japanese Woodblock Prints), a collection of reproductions of various themes and designs published around 1924. The print quality is excellent (for most of the prints) and there are almost no traces of baren on the back, so we assume that it was at least partially machine printed. It depicts Nakatsukasa (912 - 991), a famous waka-style poet. She is one of five women included in the group of ’Thirty-six Celebrated Poets’. She is wearing an enormous kimono with many colorful layers. In her right hand she is holding a fan while looking up to a poem in the handwriting of the famous calligraphist Yoshitsune.
