Description: The artist Shinmei Kato (1910-1998), was a prominent Japanese painter. His works often feature motifs of Japanese women and maiko. This piece is a woodblock print depicting the powerful head of a shishimai, lion dance, one of the traditional Japanese performing arts, in which performers mimic a lion's movements in a lion costume to festival music.
