The scene portrays the warrior Hojo Yasutoki, who famously led the shogunate forces to victory over Imperial forces during the Jokyu War of 1221. Yasutoki is shown in full armor, wearing a tall black court cap as he confers with his brother, Tomotoki, who is dressed in a blue kimono. The two are depicted at the gate of a palace, surrounded by retainers, while a groom holds the bridle of a lively horse. The twisted branches of a tree in the foreground add a dramatic touch. The print is completed with a patterned border, a signature element of the Meiji edition. This print is partially patched and has stains and creases.
