Designer: Utagawa Kunisada Era: Edo | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ¥ 35,000$ 270.00£ 210.00€ 255.00 Description: This triptych portrays a scene from the kabuki play "Kaikei dengajaya-mura", showcasing five distinct characters across its three prints. In the left sheet, a young beauty holding a straw hat, stands behind a young samurai, identifiable by his clothing. The central sheet features a standing samurai, also holding a straw hat, while a crouching man is positioned in front of him. On the right sheet, a bare-chested man, holding a barrel of (morohaku) sake and a scoop, is inside a room. The contrast between the indoor setting and the outdoor scene, where the other characters stand among trees, creates an interesting visual dynamic. A soft, pink sunset light in the background contributes to the serene yet dramatic ambiance typical of kabuki theater. These prints are partially patched and has some staining, creases, small holes, and small tears. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
