Designer: Utagawa Kunisada Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ¥ 7,000$ 54.00£ 42.25€ 51.00 Description: This is an interesting design whose background scenery was taken from Ando Hiroshige's series, "The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido”. It shows Mount Fuji rising above Mt. Asitaka placed with its rugged rock surface, two cranes are painted in the marshlands. In this Kunisada’s version, the pair of women of Hiroshige’s Hara has been erased and replaced by a young beauty that stands prominently in the foreground dressed in an elegant kimono, while two travelers are visible walking along the road behind her. All three figures are turned towards Mount Fuji, which is depicted in all its grandeur. This change not only highlights Kunisada’s focus on beautiful women but also adds a narrative element where the figures collectively admire the majestic Mount Fuji. There is a small chiri (mulberry bark scraps) at the upper left part. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
