Description: This print is from the set “The 18 Famous Kabuki Plays” made popular by the Ichikawa family, a very famous line of actors. It depicts the actor Ichikawa Danjuro in the role of the monk Soma Masakado, in the lower left panel. Above him is an unidentified actor in the role of the servant Towara Toda in the kabuki play "Kamahige", one of these famous 18 Kabuki Plays.  

The Ichikawa family crest (mon) of nested squares is shown on the upper left part of the design. It is a significant symbol representing the family's illustrious history and tradition in Kabuki theater.


This print has a few minor stains and slight creases.
