Description: One of Toyoharu’s most iconic nishiki-e (polychrome woodblock print), this tanzaku depicts a tiger walking through a bamboo grove, staring straight as if it has spotted its prey. Although Toyoharu almost certainly never saw an actual tiger, he made a brave attempt to show us the strength and power of the animal. The pairing of a tiger with a bamboo grove is a traditional motif in Japanese art, symbolizing resilience and strength. The bamboo, known for bending but not breaking, complements the tiger's power.

This version is a reproduction published by the Adachi Company.
