Designer: Ishikawa Toyonobu Era: Early Showa | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This hashira-e-ban or pillar-picture format print depicts a female abalone diver. Hashira-e is a type of Japanese ukiyo-e print, specifically designed to be hung on interior pillars as decoration. These long and narrow prints, typically measuring around 76 cm in height and 13 cm in width, were popular during the Edo period. A young diver is walking along the beach, holding a red cloth that covers the lower part of her body, leaving her chest exposed. This adds sensuality and charm to the scene. The figure is delicately designed with soft and simple lines. A written poem appears in the background, following the Chinese tradition of illustrating poems. This particular print is a reproduction from the early Showa period. Please note that this print will be folded for shipping. This print has toning, slight foxing, fold, and stain (at the top right). Also, there are some glue and tape residues on the back. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
