Description: There are many Hiroshige tanzaku-ban prints available (a single sheet of washi cut into four strips vertically), but this mitsugiri-ban (a single sheet cut into thirds, resulting in a wider print), is more rare.

The bird in this image is sometimes described as an onaga-dori, a type of rooster, but we are really not so sure about that attribution ...

[Update: A lady in Zurich, apparently quite knowledgeable about bird species, tells us, "This is hands-down a red-billed blue magpie. "]
