Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketKirifuri WaterfallSize: 42.0cm by 24.5cm (16.54 in by 9.65 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Katsushika Hokusai Era: Late Showa | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print is from "Famous Places of the Province", published by Kaiseisha in 1981. It consists of 19 prints from two series by Katsushika Hokusai: 11 prints from "Famous Bridges in the Provinces" and 8 prints from "A Tour of Waterfalls". The prints are slightly larger than o-ban prints, giving them a more powerful impression. The plethora of rivulets surging downwards in this illustration of Kirifuri Waterfall (on Kurokami Mountain in Shimotsuke) seem to mirror the branches of the surrounding trees which reach for the sky. Some travellers, one holding a hat emblazoned with the first character of the publisher's name (永), peer cautiously over the edge of a steep cliff at the cascading water below, while others in the foreground gaze upwards at the simultaneously magnificent and fearsome fall which rises above them.
