Description: Hokusai's series of ten prints titled "1000 Views of the Sea and Waterside" was originally published in the 1830s by Moriya Jihei. While the originals are small in size, they present beautiful views of different states of seas and various fishing methods with an excellent balance of human interest and scenic beauty. This particular set of ten prints was reproduced by Adachi in the 1970s.

It includes : 1. Fishing on the Miyano River
2. Digging Shellfish at Nobuto in Shimosa Province
3. Fishing at Uraga in Sagami Province
4. Fishing Boats at Choshi
5. Net Fishing on the Tone River in Shimousa Province
6. Net Fishing at the Kinu River
7. Whaling off the Coast of the Goto Islands
8. Fishing by Fire in Kai Province
9. Fly Fishing
10. Trapping Fish Below a Waterfall

Some of the distinguishing features of this set is the lack of a real topographical arrangement like the '36 Views of Mount Fuji’ which were apparently plotted according to a certain geographical plan.

Another interesting feature is Hokusai’s technique to depict shadows and light through small dots on some of the elements like the water or the plants, this added texture to his designs and became a personal style that surely influenced European artists like the impressionists.
