Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketAutumn Moon at Ishiyama (M)Size: 23.0cm by 34.5cm (9.06 in by 13.58 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Ando Hiroshige Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: [Text from the publisher's pamphlet: At the left, rocky crags tower up from the shore of Lake Biwa. The thin trestle bridge of Seta crosses the lake in the middle ground. The lake is a graded in blue and purple in the lower portion. The middle portion is clear white (reflecting the moonlight), with delicate grey shading in the distance. Against the horizon the grey silhouette of Mt. Hiei looms. Overhead, in a clear light-blue sky, the full moon shines. Ishiyama lies on a hillside bordering the Seta river. The temple there was founded in the 8th century and twice rebuilt, once during the 12th century and again at the end of the 16th century. Near the main temple stands the Genji-no-ma ('Hall of Genji'), so called because the famous Murasaki Shikibu (975-1031) is said to have composed the Genji Monogatari while staying there. The temple grounds at Ishiyama have a splendid view over Lake Biwa, especially on moonlight nights in autumn. The poem is freely translated as follows: At Ishiyama the same moon shines down as at Nio beach, and is it not more beautiful than the moon at Akashi or Suma?] For more information on the Eight Views series, please watch one of Dave's YouTube videos.
