Description: This print is from the series Six Famous Beauties. It depicts Okita, a famous waitress at the Naniwaya teahouse near Asakusa. In this design, she is carefully and elegantly holding with both hands a cup of tea that is resting on a red tray. A squared cartouche in the upper left corner shows a marine landscape.

The fact that it is a bust portrait allows the design to enhance her facial gestures like the slight smile she is drawing on her face, her hairstyle with all the ornaments, it allows to appreciate the details of every hair. It surely shows Utamaro’s skill in depicting expressive portraits.

This print is a post-war reproduction by the Takamizawa Company.
