Description: 36 Views of Mt. Fuji is an extremely well-known series. What started as 36 works later grew to include a total of 46 images, containing some of the most recognizable works Hokusai ever designed. It was published c. 1830–1832.

This is a natural and even kind of a topographic view of Enoshima as it must have been in Hokusai’s days, the village on the left side of the composition stands out against the vegetation of the forest behind it. Mount Fuji is in the right background and given its small size, instead of being the protagonist this time, it is just another element that is part of the general landscape like the tower of the pagoda peeking out from the forest on the left side. Some travelers are walking between the water on the beach, heading towards the island, and passing through the principal entrance framed by two stone lanterns.

Probably only the shape of the mist on the lower part of the print in Hokusai’s very personal style gives a note of fantasy to the whole design, and the stillness of the water gives a general serenity and calm atmosphere.
