Designer: Katsushika Hokusai Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: 36 Views of Mt. Fuji is an extremely well-known series. What started as 36 works later grew to include a total of 46 images, containing some of the most recognizable works Hokusai ever designed. It was published c. 1830–1832. This print depicts a serene and calm atmosphere reigning at Koishikawa. Under a white velvet snowy veil, some houses’ roofs and tree canopies peek out all along this winter landscape. The tea house at the left is strategically placed on the top of a hill, it is widely open and invites us inside to witness the enthusiasm of the man and the women sitting there for the magnificent view of Mount Fuji that is offered from that spot. One particularity of this print is that, in general, Hokusai shows human figures at work or for a specific purpose, here he shows a man of the world only for a pleasure trip.
