Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketThunder Shower from '36 Views of Mt. Fuji'Size: 27.0cm by 40.5cm (10.63 in by 15.94 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Katsushika Hokusai Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: It is one of the most famous prints from Hokusai’s celebrated Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series, published c. 1830–1832. This print is sometimes known as the “Black Fuji” and shows a severe and almost menacing atmosphere given by the contrast of the snowy peak and the black base of the mountain. This base has been split by bolt lighting which is here represented by Hokusai using almost abstract zigzag lines. A more serene feeling is in the background where the upper portion of the sky uses a gradation of Prussian blue and some clouds with a smoky aspect float behind the peak. This print has slight creases at the right edge. Our sharp top-light has made the waviness stand out vividly; it's actually not quite so disruptive ... Printer: Onodera / Carver: Ito (This is Mr. Susumu Ito, who deeply influenced Dave. The YouTube video featuring Ito-san became one of the most viewed on his channel ...)
