Designer: Utagawa Kunisada Era: Edo | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ![]() Description: This print, part of an untitled series of Genji pictures published in 1852, depicts Princess Hitachi, also known as the Safflower (Suetsumuhana) Princess or the "red-nosed" princess for her prominent feature. A female character from the sixth chapter of 'The Tale of Genji', holds an obi or kimono under her arm while resting her hand on a stool in front of her. A lantern with a flickering flame sits behind her. In the upper left corner, a cartouche containing safflowers references the chapter title in the novel.
